As a forewarning, I am a lover of Aussie Chards. The Margaret River has become the home of some of the world's best moderate priced chards. This one is in the heart of that category. It is big, with stone fruit and melon, the necessary hint of grapefruit and cashew like oak, with the oak perfectly balanced. Halliday's is his usual generous self with 96 points but Oliver and Walsh are no pushovers and they much agree. It's going to live for more than a few years, but mine will never make it. It is so good now, why wait.

This is a spectacularly complex chard in the best of the Margaret River. I'd be the first to admit that Aussie Chards are a bit different than their French and California cousins but this one rates well with the US raters and is prized in its homeland. Hard to come by here, and yet on sale for $9.99 a bottle. Ripe and juicy on the nose, there is melon, honeydew, butterscotch and a hint of vanilla. On the palate it is wave of apple, pear, peach and vanilla oak with a hint of spice. The finish is long, joyous and persistent.
