This is the classic style of Vouvray, made from Chenin grapes from the Loire. Rich peach and smooth fruit come in a slightly sweet apperitive wine. great with Fish, rich sauce and white meats or just on its own! Vouvray is the most important individual white wine appellation in the Touraine district of the Loire. Vouvray is Chenin Blanc and to a certain extent, Chenin Blanc is Vouvray. Vouvray itself is a pretty small town on the northern bank of the Loire just east of Tours, whose wines owe much to the Monks and Monasteries in the Middle Ages and subsequently. It was not until the creation of the Vouvray appellation in 1936 that Vouvray established an identity of its own. Houses and wine cellars have habitually been created out of the Tuffeau on this right bank of the river. Vines are planted in the clay and gravel topsoil over the Tuffeau on the plateau above, dissected by small rivers and streams so that many vineyards have an ideal sheltered southerly aspect. Remy Pannier works in partnership with growers and makes a careful selection of grapes for the production of its wines. A new winemaking cellar has just been built which benefits from the latest technology. Grapes: 100% Chenin Blanc Soil: Clay and gravel topsoil Winemaking: Soft pressing of the grapes. Fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. No malolactic fermentation takes place. Serve: Chilled as an aperitif or an ideal partner to rich chicken in sauce dishes. Taste: A demi-sec white wine, full of flavour with balanced acidity. Best drunk young.
