From parcels principally on the Nuits-St.-Georges side of the village (half of whose fruit was destemmed), Marchand's 2008 Vosne-Romanee boasts sweet black raspberry and boysenberry fruit somewhat awkwardly overlain by caramel, vanilla, and resin notes from its contingent of new wood. This began its elevage in tank, only later getting barreled, which I suspect is what has resulted in the aforementioned overlay as well as in the slight sense of drying I detect here in the finish, despite a ripeness of raw material lavish by vintage standards. Holly, brown spices, resin, and vanilla might put some tasters fondly in mind of Christmastime. But I'd want to revisit this after a year or so in bottle before hazarding any prognostication as to its bottle potential.
