Vosne-Romanee Jaboulet-Vercherre 1982

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of venerable old Burgundy from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/104313 for £22.50.Vosne-Romanee is an appellation created in 1936 [ although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans ] for red wines made of the pinot noir grape from the communes of Vosne-Romanee and its neighbour Flagey-Echezeaux on the Cotes de Nuits in Burgundy. It is a highly prestigious appellation with 15 Premier Cru and 8 Grand Cru climats,lieu-dits or vineyards. The village of Vosne took the suffix Romanee in 1866 in honour of one of the Grand Cru vineyards. My bottle is only a village level wine from the large negociant house of Jaboulet-Vercherre. I started it last night to accompany my steak supper and I did enjoy it.There is plenty of a raspberry, cherry and redcurrant style fruit there and although the tannins are fairly soft there is plenty of structure. It is smooth and easy-drinking and the drinker would not beleive this is over 30 years old

To distinguish his business from that of his brother he added his wife's maiden name of Vercherre to both his own surname and his business. Henry's descendants are still active in the business that bears their name. The Rhone valley business [ Paul Jaboulet Aine ] is still operating as well. Read less
