TN: 2006 Maximin Grünhäuser Riesling Auslese AP 3 536 014 19 07; 8.5 degrees abv; $22/750 ml; JJ Barkley; Valckenberg; Tulsa, OK.Highly refractive polished brass with a touch of orange.Cotton candy, white pepper, bread, tangerine, and mannitol. There's sufficient strawberry notes to reveal the iron in the red-slate soil. Sweet tangerine appears again on palate with good definition and great force revealing a very ripe, hot vintage. Quite sweet and with powerful but ripe acidity, with perhaps at this point just a touch of heat on the vivid and powerful aftertaste.. Lacking the earthiness that can often be found in this wine. A very vine example of the genre. Much appreciated by the crowd at Winds, served after the Riesling tasting of June 2008. The force of this wine lends it a touch of rusticity, which may rwith about 13-15 years of aging. There is an AP 19 bottling of this as well, and probably some fuder number bottlings, too.

Nose of yeast, minerals, and mild citrus. Flavor was fresh, simple, fruity with pleasingly sour finish. Acid was comparatively low. Lightly sweet.

This is supple and lush, the lemon notes taking on a cream-like richness, the minerality rounded and smooth. The finish takes on a red tone, like raspberries and red earth, firming up and lasting.
Features rich, savory herbal notes that flank an unctuous core of ripe apple and melon flavors. Supported by firm acidity, this is balanced and lushly juicy, crackling on the finish with tarragon cream. Drink now through 2022.
Subtle aromas of apricot, quince and sweet basil. Seductively unctuous mirabelle flavor complicated by piquant saline minerality. The youthfully compact, spicy finish displays enormous length. A great effort and one of the finest spatleses of the vintage.
Mouthwatering citrus and green apple flavors are chiseled and vibrant in this crunchy Riesling. Chives and green herbs are well-defined and accent the minerally essence. Chamomile notes enliven the finish. Drink now through 2030.
Very pure and racy, delivering apple, pear and white peach flavors, with loads of mineral notes. The lithe, spice-charged finish features notes of sea salt and mineral. Drink now through 2040.
White peach, hyacinth and clover on the nose. Subtly sweet papaya fruit and a hint of lime on the palate, with a creamy quality held in check by crisp minerality. Seductive riesling with a penetratingly spicy finish.
Flavors of peach and mineral are accented by white pepper in this racy white. Perhaps not as complex or luscious as its peers, yet this is focused and delicate as only the Mosel can be. Long finish.
