Volnay Clos de la Barre Louis Jadot 92 Jg 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"The premier cru of Clos de la Barre is located immediately below the village center of Volnay, tucked in on the slope between les Angles to its north and Clos de la Bousse d’Or to its south. The 2010 from Maison Jadot is outstanding and another real sleeper to search out in this vintage. The classy and very precise bouquet offers up scents of cassis, dark berries, espresso, dark chocolate, a great base of complex minerality and just a hint of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with impressive complexity, ripe tannins, a lovely core and impressive grip on the long and tangy finish. A beautiful bottle of Volnay in the making, the 2010 Jadot Clos de la Barre will need the better part of a decade to fully blossom and should age for a very long time...92+" JG 12/11 "The 2010 Volnay Clos de la Barre is a huge, implosive wine loaded with fruit. This explosive Volnay bursts onto the palate with black cherries, tar, licorice, smoke and incense. The aromas and flavors take on a decidedly exotic quality as the wine sits in the glass. This is another wine with a bright future...90-96" WA 2/12 "Outstanding: This is aromatically similar to the Clos des Chênes but with a touch of menthol. The suave, round and utterly delicious flavors are shaped by relatively fine tannins and plenty of sappy dry extract yet the finish is exceptionally firm, intense and highly persistent finish, that is at present overtly austere. Somewhat curiously, this is not quite as refined as the Clos des Chênes and is actually on the robust side at present. Note further that this will require a very long cellar snooze before it is completely ready for prime time...90-93" BH 04/12

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. This is aromatically similar to the Clos des Chjnes but with a touch of menthol. The suave round and utterly delicious flavors are shaped by relatively fine tannins and plenty of sappy dry extract yet the finish is exceptionally firm intense and highly persistent finish that is at present overtly austere. Somewhat curiously this is not quite as refined as the Clos des Chjnes and is actually on the robust side at present. Note further that this will require a very long cellar snooze before it is completely ready for prime time. Burghound.

Good dark red. Exotic slightly medicinal aromas of dried cherry incense licorice and eucalyptus. Supple spicy and quite dry offering good energy to its rather cool red fruit flavors. The aromatic finish features noteworthy energy and thrust. 90+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Bright medium red. Rocky aromas of wild red fruits, coffee and spices. Suave on entry, then tight and medicinal, even a bit tough, in the middle, but with a fine grain to the dark cherry flavor. A strong impression of minerally acidity intensifies... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy in France. 2010 Louis Jadot Volnay Clos de la Barre 750ml
