Vizcarra Ribera del Duero 2010

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought two bottles of this wine for £20 from the www.cellartrade.co.uk website.Ribera del Duero is a Spanish DO created in 1982 although winemaking in the region goes back to at least the Romans, located on the county's central northern plateau and centred on the town of Aranda de Duero about 120 miles north of the City of Madrid.Wines are mostly red and based on the tempranillo grape.Vizcarra is a small concern in this area and my bottle is their flagship cuvee,100% tempranillo aged for 15 months in oak barrels..I started one of my bottles last night with my supper of turkey breast. This is definitely a full-bodied wine. There is plenty of a blackcurrant, damson and blueberry style fruit with more than a hint of spice on the finish. The tannins are soft but this is a very structured wine. If I had to sum up in one word it would be 'savoury' This would go well with many foods and it was a good match for the turkey breast

Vizcarra:
The business was originally founded by Jose Manuel Vizcarra in the 1980's but in 1991 his son Juan Carlos [JC] took over and in 2007 moved it to its current state of the art premises in Burgos. There are 26 hectares under vine and a  range of red wines are produced. This is a winery with a high reputation.
