Vizcarra 2005

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

Surprisingly, this 100% Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero reminds me of a well-made California Cabernet. Beautiful aromas of blackberries and dark cherries lead to ripe, rich fruits on the palate. Full-bodied yet balanced, with super concentration and loads of briary fruit flavors. Refined and tasty. I have never been disappointed with Vizcarra’s line of reds. The 2005 J.C. showcases this winery’s topnotch winemaking and quality vineyards.

A wine of amazing quality and purity, the 2005 J.C. Vizcarra spent nine months is French and American oak, and is made entirely with Tempranillo. Full-bodied with creamy black cherry, cassis and a streak of red berry fruit surrounded by notes of smoky oak and minerals. Drink this with extreme pleasure over the next ten or more years.

Fresh red fruit and darker cherry flavors form the core of this tense red, the tannins standing as firm as marble columns, its acidity pungent and bright. The spicy notes will enhance the flavor of roast lamb chops.
