Fabulous aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate and flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate, with supersilky tannins and amazing richness and subtlety. Goes on for minutes on the palate. Best from 2010 through 2015. 2,345 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2006 Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva 750ml
Lush richness and velvety concentration set this wine apart from most Chianti Classico. The blend includes 15% Merlot (which is a lot) and you can really taste spice, chocolate fudge and black cherry. Determined oak notes reveal themselves in the mouth and add to the wine's overall richness.
For the 2001 Riserva, winemaker and owner Alessandro Landini blended Sangiovese with Merlot (20 percent), fleshing out the wine and adding complexity. He and wife Nicoletta prefer a discreet oak influence in their wines, aging the riserva for 12 months in large old Slavonian casks before transferring the wine to small, 3-year-old French barriques for an additional year of maturation.
Hints of tobacco and ripe red berry aromas. Complex palate with blackberry, mineral and subtle earth. Fine tannins and a smooth, elegant finish.
Classy, elegant CC, with plum, berry and soft mineral character. Medium-to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long, minerally finish. Another standout from Chianti. Terrific value here considering the quality. Best after 2005.
A full-bodied Chianti that teases the palate with sweet blackberry, subtle licorice and traces of flint. The tannins are full and silky, evolving into a long, lingering finish.
The estate's 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva is a rich sensual wine bursting with sour dark cherries, French oak, new leather and flowers. As it sits in the glass the wine's inner perfume emerges with even greater clarity, melding beautifully into the soft, creamy finish. This is a terrific effort from Viticcio. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.
