Vitiano Falesco Verdicchio Vermentino 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Cold maceration of the grapes, the fermentation and the refinement in stainless steel keep the characteristics of the two varieties intact, making a mosaic from refined golden hues. The wine is sapid, fresh, well balanced with an elegant softness, a good structure and lingering aromas.

The climatic and pedologic characteristics of this territory are similar. The hills stretching from Montefi ascone to Orvieto are partly volcanic partly sedimentary in origin and both kinds of soil are particularly suited to the growing of vines as witnessed by the century-old tradition of the zone. In his book The foreign varietals cultivated in Italy S. Mondini affirms that as early as the 19th century several foreign varietals were cultivated in Lazio, some in quite remarkable proportions and specialized in the vineyards... Cabernet, Carignane, Gamay, Grenache, Merlot, Malbeck, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah... Lazio generally proves to be an area where the advantages from the cultivation of the foreign varietals are remarkable, especially for what concerns the ones coming from France.. In the countryside surrounding Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo it’s widely held that they contribute to the improvement of the local wine production. Read less

Bright straw hue, aromas of apples and floral; flavor notes of yellow apples, tree fruits with a creamy, mineral balance across the palate. A nice value dry Italian white with good acidity.

Dried apricot and lemon character on the nose, with hints of mineral. Medium-bodied, with an oaky, creamy vanilla character, combined with the fruit. Straightforward. Drink now.

The 2004 Vitiano Bianco is a stainless steel-fermented and aged blend of equal parts Verdicchio, Viognier, and Vermentino. It offers up a perfumed nose of melons, cantaloupe, and a touch of lemon butter along with a lovely texture, light to medium-body, and a fresh personality. Drink it over the next year.
