What to Expect

Petite Sirah is one of a group of grapes that took to a new home - in this case California - after moving from the relative obscurity enjoyed at its birthplace - France in this case - where it is called Duriff. While never particularly elegant nor subtle, Petite Sirah can produce large-scaled, intense wines with bright flavors of blue and plummy fruits, rich with earthy tannins.

Winemakers Notes

Our basic winemaking philosophy is to work with great grape growers to develope the best fruit in the vineyard. We pick the grapes at optimal ripeness and gently process the fruit. We are very experimental with yeast strains and use different cultures for each variety. Our whites are barrel fermented slowly and aged Sur Lies in small French Oak barrels. With our reds, skin contact is optimized by the use of small open top fermentors, hand punch downs and extended maceration before pressing. Our belief in the use of older French barrels allows the varietal fruit of our wines to be expressed. We are read more...committed to experimenting and learning new winemaking methods while preserving an old world approach. Our Petite Sirah is called Pets by veteran growers like Ken Wilson, so we dedicate this wine to his pet - Tanker. Dark colored, long legged, we feel this wine has the potential of becoming your best friend. Tasting Notes: Deep black cherry, plum color with an intense blast of huckleberry and blueberry coulis, and pomegranate, cassis notes. The entry on the palate is crushed wild raspberry, cherry with its seeds and then back to blue fruit while framed with integrated sweet, supple french oak notes. A portion of the profits from this wine will be donated to our local animal shelter, the San Francisco SPCA.    (hide)
