Vintage Dom Perignon 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

94 Points from Robert Parker who says "A stronger vintage than expected, the 1998 Dom Perignon exhibits aromas and flavors of lemon oil, orange rind, and brioche in a medium-bodied, zesty, rich, moderately intense style. It is far superior to either the 1993 or 1992.The history of Dom Perignon is well known. It was named after Pierre Perignon, a famous monk born in 1640. At the age of 28 he was appointed cellarmaster at the Abbey of Haut Villers. Though he was blind, he was reported to have extremely acute tasting abilities. A knowledgeable grape grower as well as winemaker, he was one of the first to teach blending skills in the Champagne region. His greatest accomplishments were finding a way to keep the bubbles in the sparkling wine and reinforcing glass bottles by sealing them with corks."
