A Malbec wine from in Argentina. 2007 Mendel Malbec 750ml
Packed with layers of crushed plum and boysenberry fruit, with exotic spice notes, this richly textured wine is carried by fresh acidity to the long, dark finish. Has the structure for aging. Drink now through 2009.
Mendelandrsquo;s 2007 Malbec was sourced from a 45-acre parcel of 80-year-old vines in Lujan de Cuyo and aged for 12 months in French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of cedar, spice box, violets, and black cherry. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of savory fruit, cinnamon and allspice notes, excellent depth and concentration, and a fruit-filled finish. This stylish effort will evolve for 2andndash;3 years and deliver prime drinking from 2011 to 2019.
The 2005 Malbec was sourced from a 77 year old ungrafted vineyard, and aged for 12 months in 40% new French oak. It is opaque purple-colored with aromas of smoke, toast, violets, and black raspberry. Supple, ripe, and layered, it is firmly structured with well-concealed tannins. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2025.
Bright ruby. Blackberry, violet, licorice and a tarry nuance on the nose. Fresh and suave, with good acid cut giving verve to the black fruit and violet flavors. Not yet particularly complex but this is a juicy and vibrant wine with very good finishing lift. Tannins are firm but ripe. The winemaker here is Roberto de la Mota, previously at Terrazas de los Andes.
Big, ripe, colorful and attractive, with leather and earth on the nose. The mouthfeel is a touch clanky, while the black fruit palate is broad and masculine as it shows a few holes in the fabric. With vanilla and mocha late, this is a nice Malbec with full tannins and grip.
