Vino Con Brio Zinfandel Lodi Matzin Old Vine 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The Zinfandel was hand harvested from our Locust Tree Road Vineyard and hand sorted at the winery. Fermentation was completed in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks utilizing specialty yeasts (D-254 and D-80) to further develop the bright berry and cassis aromas. It was aged 15 months in new and older French and American oak barrels. After filtration, it was put into bottle. Locust Tree Vineyard, planted in 1943 After selling out of 3 vintages last year, we have expanded production and hope that we have enough to satisfy our biggest fans as well as those just discovering our flagship offering. The 2005 Matzin Old Vine Zinfandel is already earning raves from California Wine Critics. In January, the Old Vine earned a Silver Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition - amazing accolades before it was even bottled! Sante Magazine reviewed it as "Full, velvety and precise with old-vine fruit intensity and aromas and flavors of cherry, framboise, mint and earth. Great with ribs" in their July/August 2007 issue. We can't wait to share it with you! Blackberry, cassis and spice leap from the glass. Smoky oak and black pepper fill in the ample aromas. The texture is rich and supple with the berry and cassis flavors leading to a full finish. All that you could ever expect from an "Old Vine Zin". This wine will make an excellent accompaniment to all hardier cuisines and barbeque. Brix was 26.5, pH 3.6 and TA .64g/100mL. 2005 was an outstanding vintage in the Lodi area. Cool late summer and early fall temperatures allowed the fruit to fully mature on the vine without any sign of over-ripening. Sugar: .27 Oak: French and American

From 70+ year old wines, this is a deep, rich Zinfandel. Blackberries, spice and plums predominate the aromas. Hints of chocolate and cedar round out the expansive nose. The small amount of Petite Sirah brings a complex black pepper impression. Flavors follow in the pepper and plum theme. Full and ripe the body is enjoyable without being overdone. Rich in texture the wine lingers for a pleasant supple finish. A great match for barbeque, this wine also works well with stews and other hardy fare. kybecca.com
