Vinha da Urze Douro 2015

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in Calais for 6 euros. It comes from the valley of the river Douro in northern Portugal,an area well known for port production, but table wines such as this are also made.It is from the Vinha da Urze estate, one of six properties operated by CARM.This estate is 320 metres above sea level and has 14 hectares under vine but 107 hectares devoted to olive trees. My bottle consists of 45% touriga franca,30% tinta roriz [known as tempranillo in Spain] and 25% touriga nacional, all grapes traditional to Portugal.and was aged in oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my supper of chicken thighs. There is plenty of a cherry and bramble style fruit with more than a hint of spice or pepper but soft and smooth tannins. In short this is a lovely wine that went well with the chicken and excellent value at 6 euros
