Vineyard 7 & 8 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 7 2004

External Review by Shop Wine Direct:

Wine & Spirits ReviewRated 94From a vineyard planted in 1985, at 2,020 feet on Spring Mountain, this is a fresh, mountain-grown wine, a foresty cabernet with stamina. There's a tight core of berry flavor, and a mineral edge from the tannins. As a young wine, it manages to carry a lot of alcohol without showing it, leaving a bright impression of juicy plums rather than any heat. The wine feels natural, festive, surprisingly pretty for its thoroughbred stance. It's a wine to follow along the course of its development, which should be ten to 20 years long.

Led by our Winemaker, Luc Morlet, our approach is based on a collaborative effort to make the best wines possible from our vineyards. These vineyards, which lie above the fog, bring late ripening, low yields, natural drainage, and infertile volcanic soil. This adds to the distinctive quality of our wine, which is unlike any other appellation. Our facility allows us to micromanage the entire process, beginning in the vineyards and ending with the consumer. Small fermentations, strict sorting of the fruit, techniques based on cleanliness and organization...these philosophies are all part of our winemaking approach. Read less
