What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

Featured in October, 2008 Andrew Harper Hideaway Report!

RARE = limit 12 bottles please

ROBERT PARKER "CLASSIC 95" POINTS:
The 2005, a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, is superb. Notes of lead pencil shavings intermixed with smoky cassis and black cherries, a hint of white chocolate, and cedar are all present in this wine, which spent 17 months in French oak. Beautiful texture, medium to full body, and a totally seamless personality make for a gorgeous wine to drink now or cellar for 15 or more years.

Tasting Notes -- Cru is made from six vineyards specifically selected from all across the Napa Valley. This stellar fruit then follows the same vinification process as all the wines in Vineyards 29 s portfolio from meticulous hand sorting to gentle processing in a state of the art, full gravity flow winery. All of this careful attention results in a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Opening with ripe dark fruit this wine gives way to toasty vanilla and creamy caramel notes. On the palate ripe raspberries, cassis, roasted coffee and dried flowers are blended with plenty of earth and spice. read more...

WA 95pts. - IWC 95pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The east-facing hillside Vineyard 29 turns out superb Cabernet Sauvignon, but again there is not much of it. While the Cru negociant Cabernet Sauvignon represents 3,000 cases, there are just under 700 cases of the estate Vineyard 29 Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2005, a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, is superb. If you love your asparagus wrapped in bacon and your filet dripping with blue cheese, this wine delivers the steakhouse complement - ripe and delicious... but somewhere, deep down inside it wants to be Bordeaux. Note: Rating was given to a prior tasting of this wine. The rating does not change (up or down) from recent tasting.

A bit of a stewy character on the nose; hint of tomato paste and bell peppers in the background of brambling red and black fruit. Slight astringent tannins, tart and bitter with a bit of warm sweetness on the finish. Definitely a chewy wine. Can't wait to see how it ages.
