What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

This wine is composed of the softer lots from our estate vineyards. The 2004 vintage is an excellent one and this beautiful wine will please now yet it possesses significant strength to gain added complexities for many years.

Reviews

My first and only taste of this wine was last summer (June 12, 2007). At the time, my notes were sparse, but here goes:

Nose of big fruit, little oak, strawberries, slight vanilla (perhaps more oak than I describe with "little"?)

Flavors were typical Cab (i.e. cassis), with strong tannins. I think my notes indicate the tannins weren't harsh, but rather strong in structure.

Aroma: Bright with sweet black currant jam, plum and wild berry fruit with hints of fennel and lavender. Cocoa powder, cedar, toast with hints of mineral add depth and complexity. Palate: The mouth feel is rich and full with a luscious texture that builds to a long lingering finish.
