Vinas del Cenit Vino de la Tierra de Zamora Venta Mazzaron 2011

Member Review by judgelog:

I'm a Spanish wine lover, and this is a great find. Complex and a bit smokey with lots of sweet fruit and fine tannins. Very nice nose and a long satisfying finish. Great value at $11.

It takes two hands of lift this bottle, but if you like reds in the plush, international style, it’s worth the effort. A velvety texture carries bold flavors of black currant, fig pudding, spice and cocoa. So gentle yet so rich. Tempranillo. Drink now through 2014.

Inky violet. Exotically perfumed nose displays suave dark berries, chocolate, roasted coffee and vanilla. Supple blackberry and blueberry flavors are impressively deep, with inviting sweetness and a long, sappy, gently tannic finish. The French oak here was all new but doesn’t intrude on the impressively pure fruit of this impeccably balanced wine.

The 2005 Cenit is 100% Tinta de Toro from 60- to over 100-year-old ungrafted vines. The wine was barrel fermented and aged for 18 months in new oak. Deep crimson-colored, it has a superb bouquet of cedar, wood smoke, saddle leather, tobacco, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied, rich, and opulent, the wine is intense, complex, and structured for several years of cellaring. It should be at its best from 2012 to 2025.
