Vinaceous Shiraz Limestone Coast Snake Charmer 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2010 Snake Charmer Shiraz is from the Pieri Family Vineyard in the hills between McLaren Flat and Kangarilla; these old vines are hand harvested and made using traditional techniques by Vinaceous contract winemaker Elena Brooks (Dandelion Vineyards). The wine is matured in oak and selected by Vinaceous Winemakers Mike Kerrigan and Nick Stacy and sent to West Cape Howe Wine (WA) for finishing, fining, blending and bottling by Vinaceous. The result is an exceptional, deep purple & vivid in colour with bright hues - with perfumed, lifted berries and spice on the nose, intense black fruits, dark chocolate and mocha notes across the mid palate; wonderfully rich, layered and textural; this wine literally coats the mouth - and finishes with soft, long and silky tannins and toasty oak nuances. The 2010 Snake Charmer Shiraz can be enjoyed in its youth and can be cellared for up to 8 years and a perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, sausages and BBQ’s.

Great value in this Australian McLaren Vale Shiraz. Most noticable are the fresh, slightly jammy blackberry notes. (I've never drank a wine that reminded me so much of blackberries.) But it doesn't stop there...this is well balanced wine with cloves and spice, great acidity, and good supple tannins.I think it's quite impressive for the price.

Great value for the price in the 2007 vintage. Full of raspberry and blueberry overtures with a long finish. Full bodied, yet not at all tannic or harsh. Very smooth on the finish. A pleasure to drink now and years later no doubt.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Snake Charmer Shiraz has notes of warm plums, blackberry preserves and baking spices with a hint of cloves. Medium-full bodied with plenty of ripe blackberry flavor, it has chewy tannins, crisp acidity and a medium-long finish. Drink this one now to 2015.

I'll admit andmdash; I, too, was swayed by the fabulous retro carnival label. Fortunately, this was not another case of catchy-label, bland wine. The Vinaceous Snake Charmer Shiraz is certainly charming with its hedonistic blackberry, currant and pomegranate fruit, the spicy black pepper and cloves, and the deep, heady smoke. Perfect for barbecue, picnic foods, or roasted meats with lots of spices.
