Santa Rita was founded in 1880, by a distinguished entrepreneur of those times, Mr. Domingo Fernández Concha in the area of Alto Jahuel where the main installations of the winery are currently located. From the very beginning, he introduced fine French varieties, winemakers and the most advanced winemaking techniques. From the end of the XIX century until the mid 70´s, Santa Rita developed under the ownership of Mr. Vicente García - Huidobro, father of the famous Chilean poet Vicente Huidobro Fernández. In 1980, the Grupo Claro acquired the Santa Rita property, giving a strong impulse to the enterprise in all of its scope, introducing great technological improvements and wine elaboration techniques unknown in Chile at that time. At the end of the 80´s a great expansion period for Santa Rita starts, sustained by the great momentum experienced by its exports and the excellent reputation acquired by its products, which obtained important awards and worldwide recognition. First Taste - Poured through an aerator, I was immediately confused by the bouquet. Overwhelming musty, basement smell, thought "corked" immediately. But then it opened up more and some oak rolled out with some other hints, including vanilla that barely came out. Color - Deep blackberry color. Taste, typical Cab Sav yet lacking the tannins. Not silky tannins but very light. I thought it was quite balanced and slightly acidic. Tart. I am going to give this one a day two try, but not a fan at first taste. WOW. After recorking and resting til the next time this wine really came into its own. The bouquet was alive and fruity, Black Currants jumped out onto the palette and the tannins were close to perfect. After reading other reviews of products of this vineyard I feel better now, this is just a wine you do not want to open and pour.

Very fruit forward, almost a little jammy, New World style Cabernet Sauvignon. I tasted black currant and maybe some blackberry in the mix.

A Chilean Cab with great bones. Rich, ripe, dark fruit & flowers on the nose, a lovingly-balanced array of green pepper, cedar, and juicy black cherry in the mouth.

The color is very dark and dense. Nose open, immediately on the jammed blackcurrant and blackberry. In the mouth, the power immediately, without the stroke of the truncheon of alcohol (14.5 °). The currant, blackberry and then ends with cocoa. A little too heavy and crushing with rare red meat, but can finish the meal to come with a chocolate cake. Tasting date: January 16, 2010 Maturity: Wait 2-3 years No cons-indication to drink now with what remains of freshness of blackcurrant. Nice to aging.

Good dark fruit - currant, plum and raisin - with coffee and herb notes and a coating of bittersweet chocolate. Burly for a Merlot, but I like its guts. Drink now through 2005.

Weedy and herbal, but there are also black cherries and mocha on the nose and bitter chocolate and coffee on the palate. Finishes with toffee, smoke and herbs, offering surprising complexity in a wine of this genre.

Sweet and round, with plum and berry fruit kissed by judicious vanilla. Nice easy finish lets an herb hint peek out. Drink now.

Eucalyptus and tobacco flavors give this wine a distinctive personality but dominate the light cherry flavors. Firm tannins allow it to stand up to grilled meats. Best from 2000 through 2003.

Dark fruits, baking spices, and soft tannins make this the perfect wine for cold-weather comfort food. This is ready to drink tonight, and won't disappoint your guests.

Fresh light-bodied and elegant with a commanding fruity flavor rounded out by soft tannins

Smoke, herbal and plum aromas lead into a light-bodied, graceful Merlot that sports crushed raspberry followed by easy tannins on the finish. Drink now.
