Not as surprising as the Sauvignon Blanc, but I like the feel. Sharp on the nose and the finish is bitter, overwhelming the subtler flavors. I hope there's more left at the grocer, because this needs more air than I gave it; I think this is good a find and deserves more inspection.

I've found Carmeneres to be nearly as reliable as Malbecs in the $10-12 price range, and this is a good red. The aroma suggests earthy and dark fruit, and the main body has notes of tobacco, wood, blackberries, and plums, with a finish that actually reminds me of Earl Grey tea (bergamot). More earthy than "fruit forward" with a good complexity for this price range. I was initially going to give this 3.5 but as it oxidizes a bit I'll go to 4/5. This is an excellent value.

I agree with nputens' comment. This wine needs some breathing time to appreciate its finish. Certainly more smoky than fruit. I've had better Carmeneres but they were significantly pricier.

This Carmenere is rough, it has the characteristic metalic finish of a carmenere but that is where the pleasure ends, it was much more herbaceous than I find most carmeneres to be and it also had a very rough/hot finish, too sptrong for a lithgt red of its type. I do not recommend this wine at all.

All vineyards are planted in vertical shoot position in order to obtain good sunlight exposure and airing. The crop is restricted to 7-8 ton/ha so as to get concentrated grapes. During the season, irrigation becomes a critical factor for this variety since it is very sensitive to water stress. The idea is to reduce water availability down to pea size to produce medium size berries and vigor control, then allowing the roots to feed the plant with enough water for good ripening, without any excess, while keeping a small growth of leaves at the tip of the shoots.
