Viña Santa Rita Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2003
As much as I enjoy the Santa Rita Medalla Real I've drunk from later vintages, this wine was a bit disappointing. An interesting nose of fennel, paprika and lavender promised more, but the fruit dosn't deliver and most of what is left is a mouthful of tannins. My first inclination was to give this wine a 2.5 glasses rating but it improved some with air.
Lovely sweet after taste. Nice and soft tannins. I didn't sense a lot of aroma, but the taste really got me and the lasting taste in the mouth. Love this wine and looking for more to keep in my cellar.
Tasted April 2008: A good wine for a 100% Cabernet sauvignon, yet by no means a great wine: dark colour, intense bouquet of ripe black currants, unfortunately also somewhat jammy; on the palate not as full as expected but rather athletic, delectable, and with oak and vanilla in the aftertaste. All in all a rather simple wine, monolithic, without finesse, elegance or character; moreover, this wine desperately needs food. For early drinking.

Wine Spectator ReviewDark and muscular, with lots of tobacco, cocoa, loam and currant notes supported by dense but fresh tannins. Has ample length on the finish. Not as dynamic as previous vintages, but still outstanding. Drink now through 2010.Wine Tasting NotesRuby red with good intensity. A commanding bouquet of ripe fruit, sweet plum and black currant, exquisitely mingled with delicate notes of leather, tobacco, vanilla and clove, enhanced by subtle nuances of mint and exotic spices. Highly concentrated, intensely flavored and rich in tannins, with a full, magnificent body and a remarkable, sleek finish.
