In Situ is part of the Viña San Esteban family winery in Aconcagua Valley, Chile. The name means “in place,” which refers to the local archeological symbols on the label as well as the sense of place evident from the wines. The winery was founded by José Vicente and his son Horatio, who had previously worked at Mouton Rothschild and Mouton Cadet in Bordeaux, France and Chalone vineyard in California. The grapes are grown in the steep foothills of the Andes mountains, allowing for optimal ripening. Instead of hiding the grape flavors behind heavy oak treatments, the wines are only lightly oaked to accent the true expression of the fruit. In Situ also produces a line of wines from organic vineyards.
