Cassis and black currant play off oak, peppercorn and green bell pepper in this spicy wine that also exhibits soft tannins and a long intense, yet smooth finish. Pair with hearty stews, chili or a good NY strip steak with sauteed onions and wild mushrooms. The spice in this wine need a beef dish to expose its fruit flavors.

Dark ruby red in color. Complex aroma with a hint of cherry. I completely love the taste of this wine; with sweet taste and very light tannins. I wouldn't call it fruity, but the sweetness in the after taste is amazing. Love it.

Robust and mature, smooth depth, with obvious spicy shiraz overtones. Delicious.

Winemaker's Notes:

Situated in the Alto-Maipo region, the Perez Cruz families’ beautiful estate has hit the headlines for all the right reasons. From the first vintage in 2002 their wines have amassed an impressive array of awards and gold medals, the latest being Gold in the IWC 2006 for their Limited Edition Syrah Reserva 2004. This Quelen wine is Perez Cruz's top brand - Quelen is a blend of Petite Verdot, Carmenere and Cot varieties, and it has been aged for more than 14 months in French oak. The aromas of this wine are elegant and complex, evoking a distinct wine that combines traditional and modern styles. It has prominent notes of red fruits, oak, tobacco, spices and a unique mineral note. On the palate it is a concentrated wine with a very pleasant balance of fruits and liquorice sweetness. Its ripeness and soft tannins make for a long and persistent finish with abundant mineral notes.
