Vina Montes Unoaked Sauvignon Blanc Case Of 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

90-91 points David Schildknecht (Wine Advocate): ...evinces the smoky, fusil, chalky, iodine-like Kimmeridgian aspects as well as the succulent kiwi and grapefruit in spades, and with an extra measure of sheer juiciness and saliva-stimulating salinity that add to the persistence and next-sip inducement of the finish. Lees-enhanced richness of texture offers something of a platform for showing off the vintage-atypical levity, animation, and minerality that characterize this cuvee of only 13.2% alcohol -- a whisker lower, amazingly, than the corresponding 2010. It should prove profoundly delightful for at least half a dozen years, not to mention it is an excellent value. (Jun 2012)

One of Chile’s most renowned winemakers – Auriello Montes Sr. – blazed the path of bringing his country’s premium selections to the world when he joined forces with wine industry vet Douglas Murray and partners Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand in 1988. Together, they formed Viña Montes, which became the standard for premium Chilean wines with the introduction of Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon. In the quarter century since then, the company has been instrumental in raising awareness, affinity, and acclaim for Chilean wines in over 100 countries worldwide. Hailing from Apalta in Chile’s Cochalgua Valley, Viña Montes produces 950,000 cases annually through its vineyards La Finca de Apalta (in Apalta); El Arcangel Estate (in Marchigue); and Los Nogales Estate (in Curico). Among the company labels are Montes Alpha “M,” Montes Folly, Purple Angel, Montes Alpha, Montes Classic Series, Montes Cherub, and Montes Twins. In 2004, a new cellar was created at Apalta through an investment of more than US$7 million. Chilean architect Samuel Claro, from the Claro and Swinburn Agency, created the space, which was decorated by Paula Gutierrez, a nationally renowned designer. Here, technology and equipment reside in a peaceful environment incorporating Feng Shui elements – water, air, metal and wood- to encourage harmony and a positive atmosphere, enhancing the total experience and resulting wines. Tight and dusty on the nose with a fairly floral character and only light suggestions of weedy red fruit. Light and fresh on the palate, this is relatively small-scaled but nicely textured with integrated acidity that keeps this fresh yet supple. The fruit shows notes of apple fruit with a wash of cherry and perhaps a suggestion of almond on the moderately long finish. A wine of contradictions, I’d like a little more intensity here, but I could probably drink a bottle without realizing it. 87pts

Awesome blend of Cab Sauv and the mythical Carmenere from Chile. Maybe my best value wine ever. Super smooth and complex beyond my descriptive abilities but theres some chocolately/vanilla/butterscotch flavs happening here that made it perfect with the dark chocolate we had on the boat after a sail on the Gulf of Mexico. Cheers!

An absolute adventure of smooth and dark combinations. Something new! Very, very special, has to be learned a bit. Choose it´s place on the tounge with care. Butterscotch. Overripe cherries hiding in a smoky leather darkness. Burnt vanilla. Best value I have bought.

The domaine is composed of 17 hectares in AOC Sancerre; with vines aged between 10 and 80 years. The vineyards are on clay and limestone soils as well as Silex, which allow a good drainage. In order to respect the environment and to allow the better expression of the terroir, the vineyards are cultivated using 'lutte raisonne', using as few chemicals as possible and working with the nature. Located across from the chateau and just 500 meters from the vines, the ancient vaulted cellars lie under the chateau's XIIth century Roman chapel. The chapel itself is built on the site of a Gallo-Roman temple and springs (vestiges of which are preserved at the Museum of Bourges). These well-ventilated cellars, with ideal natural hygrometry, maintain a year around constant temperature that is perfect for the maturation and conservation of wine. Vintage: 2009 Grapes: ...

On the palate citrus fruits like pink grapefruit and tropical fruits as white peach and passion fruit are accompanied by the floral notes that characterize this wine, showcasing its cool Casablanca climate origin, revealing an aromatic and fresh wine.
