Food Pairings for Vina Los Vascos Chardonnay Colchagua Valley
Here's another wine with the backing of Domaines Barons de Rothschild. This one coming from a small valley within the Colchagua Province, Caneten Valley in Chile. Unfortunately, I can only give this wine 2 glasses. On the surface, it was pleasing to taste, but it shows a little more like a sauvignon blanc than a chardonnay. On the back of the bottle, there's mention that the winery was planted with ungrafted pre-phylloxera Bordeaux rootstock, so that may have something to do with the sauv blanc-ness to this wine. Now it's not completely devoid of chardonnay, with a little honey and apricot on the nose, and a little fuller body in the mouth, but to me it seems to end there. The rest of the fruit on the nose was more tropical, with melon, hints of grapefruit and lime. A little tart in the beginning of the palate, and moving on to citrus and honey rounding it to a medium finish. This would be a good everyday drinking wine for the casual consumer, but in my opinion not very varietal specific. But it is a 2009, maybe with a little more age at the winery would help turn this fresh fruity wine into more of a noble chardonnay.

Very nice look&feel. It is just little bit stronger than I like
A chardonnay that will surprise you. Instead of big and oaky this one was fermented in stainless steel. For most chardonnay fans it will appear to be a sauvignon blanc. Nice to have a different style on the same grape.
a fantastic wine - very well priced for what it is

Not big on the nose, but the round texture is pleasant, and the notes of apple and cream carry through on the finish. Drink now.
Pale straw. Spicy lemon and orange aromas show good freshness and cut. Clean and racy, with precise citrus and green apple flavors and a pleasantly sweet finish that features a kick of spice and good length.
Banana and melon aromas combined with a touch of hazelnuts - A rich, fruity wine featuring good structure and great aromatic purity - Recommended for consumption while still young to enjoy its freshness, but concentrated enough to keep the fruit for a couple of years.
The winter was relatively dry, but fortunately there was enough rain in December, at the beginning of the ripening period, to provide the necessary coolness. Leaf removal operations then enabled the yield to be controlled, and the grapes were able to fully ripen and express all of their potential. The grapes were picked early and the harvests took place in excellent conditions between 11 and 15 March.
This Chardonnay has a delicate, bright yellow colour. The nose offers aromas of ripe pineapple, fresh banana, stewed Asian pumpkin and white flowers. On the palate, it combines freshness and volume with a pleasantly balanced finish. Ideal as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to fish, oysters, poultry and certain soft cheeses. Can be kept a few months and enjoyed as it evolves. Serve cold between 10°C and 12°C.
