The company was founded in 1998 after Aldo Olivier Gramola realised the potential for producing superb wines in this seem-arid valley. Aldo settled with his family in the Elqui Valley in 1951 and has been producing grapes and wine there since 1975. The Falernia project was born after he met Giorgio Flessati, an enologist working in the Trentino region of northern Italy. This is an innovative venture given that Viña Falernia is Chile’s most northerly wine estate, a considerable distance from the country’s main wine-growing areas. The driving force has been a passion for the wine and the challenge of transforming a tract of desert into a green vineyard with enormous potential for producing premium wines, availing ourselves of the latest technology, the support of agronomist from Chile universities and of world renowned enologists. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

My favorite every day wine at the moment. Tastes better than many higher priced wines. Will add a case to my cellar.

This deep plum dry wine from Chile had a fruity smell but the taste was not strongly fruity. Taste of smokey spicy plum. Nice balance of acidity but a little alcoholic. Great for a BBQ.

Really intense spicy nose with hints of bacon. Nicely balanced with bright and vibrant acidity. I really liked the texture and mouthfeel. Reminded me of northern Rhone wines, great concentration, long finish with really balanced tannins.

Grow up in the middle of the desert, showing the best of Syrah. The best option is Gran Reserve and the price, in Chile, is around US$ 12,00.

Dark and winey, but not heavy, with lots of ripe, fleshy plum and blackberry fruit layered with white pepper, iron and violet notes. There s ample toast, but it s well-integrated, with a long finish. Drink now through 2012.
