Viña Falernia Pedro Ximénez 2006
My Rating 89. This wine has a more elegant approach to syrah. nose has elegant restrained berry caracter. Taste is dry with fine grained tannins, oak is very subdued, fruit is concentrated but not overpowering. Try it!!
This Syrah is dense, spicy and smokey, with plum, pepper and herbal notes to boot. Nice medium long finish. Great value at around $10.
Smoke. Game. Blueberry. Just like they advertised at Liquor Max. And smooth... This is gonna make them grilled brontosaurus steaks taste mighty fine!
Very light after decanting. Subtle notes of pepper spice up the soft aromas and palate.
From Chile's northernmost wine estate. Grapes sourced in the Elqui Valley. Malolactic fermentation. Full bodied. Pepper, smoke, game, plum. Smooth tannins. I purchased 3 bottles and finished them quickly. I decided to return for a case, but missed out. Looking to find more. I want to cellar some of this, even though it is such an inexpensive wine. Side note; the copper & black labeling is attractive. Nice packaging.
This is one of those instances where I feel I must have had a different wine from the other reviewers. What others refer to as "charred black cherry fruit" and "distinctive grilled flavor," had to me the faint taste of burnt rubber. This was not nearly as pronounced as in some South African wines that I've tried, for instance, but it did not make me love the wine. Otherwise, yes, it had plenty of fruit. I guess I don't do "rustic."
