Viña Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Halves 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The Errazuriz Estate was founded in 1870 when Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards at Panquehue in the Aconcagua Valley - 100km North of the capital. Recognising that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world class vineyard.Today, the tradition of quality lives on with Don Maximiano's descendant Eduardo Chadwick. Eduardo is the fifth generation of his family to be involved in the wine business. The grapes for the Errazuriz Estate Cabernet Sauvignon came from our vineyards in the Valle de Aconcagua just a few miles from our flagship Don Maximiano Estate.The grapes were hand-picked from late April through the second week of May and transported to the winery in bins. The fruit was crushed into stainless steel tanks and fermented immediately. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is an attractive ruby-red with a nose that shows pleasing notes of sour cherries and strawberries intermingled with tobacco. The juicy palate is medium-bodied with a solid structure, a level of acidity that is very nicely balanced by its firm yet sweet tannins, and a pleasing finish.

From Chile comes this muscular red, showing firm tannins under chocolate, licorice, black olive and plum flavors. A good, affordable option in Cabernet, it's rich enough for food and balanced enough to improve through 2000.

Kräftiges Rubinrot. Viel schwarzbeerige Frucht in der charmanten Nase, Brombeeren und schwarze Johannisbeeren, auch etwas Honigmelasse. Kräftige Cabernet-Aromatik, angenehm fliessend und bestens strukturiert, schwarze Schokolade und etwas Tabak offenbaren sich, vanilleartiges, ausgedehntes Finale.

Broad and deep, with some rich, ripe aromatics some might call stewy. But the wine itself is balanced and healthy, with cassis, cherry and tobacco flavors. The finish sports a liqueur-like sweetness, and the tannins are just right.

Vivid red. Pungent aromas of dark cherry and cassis, plus a tangy note of blood orange. Spicy, tightly wound dark berry flavors possess good depth and clarity, with fine tannins adding support. Leaves zesty mineral and pepper notes behind the sappy finish. I like this wine's energy and bite.

Lots to admire in this full-bodied, flavor packed Cabernet. Concentrated, blackberry, currant and sweet summer ripe fruits with a satisfying, lumbering texture. Robust, weighty and spiced, yet remains friendly with balanced tannin.
