Vina del Mar Tinto Penedès Jaume Serra Rood 2007
Jaume Serra, the winery producing Cristalino Cava, was founded in 1943 by Jaume Serra Guell in the Garraf zone of the Penedes in Catalonia, Spain. The “El Padruell” estate presiding over the vineyard slopes was built in 1647. The winery was purchased and renovated in 1997 by the J Carrión group. The wines are produced using yeasts imported from Champagne, France and are made in the Methode Tradicional.

This shows impressive complexity on the nose with layered nut, honeycomb, toast, dried fruit and vegetal floral aromas. Fine mousse combined with a broad yet transparent feel in the mouth gives this a lovely presence, both sophisticated and elegant. The flavors are perhaps a touch light on the palate with a hint of something vaguely cherried sitting atop lemon, sour apple and bosc pear skin notes. The fruit here is subtle yet fresh with a lovely interplay on the finish between the fruity and earthy sides to this wine. Very nicely done. 88pts

Pale bright, streaming pinpoint effervescence, aromas of bruised apple and bread dough, flavor notes of apples and citrus, lite on the palate, on to a moderate dry finish. Great Value!
What I would expect from a medium range Cava. plenty of bubbles, crisp nose mildly fragrant. Somewhat flat with little left on the palette. For this Restaurant it was the best value for a White wine on the lower price ranges.
I really loved this one and for the price....can't be beat. I found it at World Market. It is slightly heavier than Rose wines I have found in CA, but I like that. A good strong zip with a fruity after taste. It has been selected as best Value Brand wine of the year by Wine&Spirits magazine for the third year in a row.

The Cristalino is crisp and refreshing, with lovely toasty, pie crust aromas and some austere citrus and apple flavours. It?s definitely dry, though not bracingly so.
