Vina Costeira Ribeiro 2010
Viña Costeira is a balanced blend of the varieties Treixadura, Torrontés, Loureira—indigenous grapes of Ribeiro. The grapes come from the best slopes (costeiras) that the rivers Miño and Avia form surrounding the medieval village of Ribadavia. After a gentle pressing, the grape juice undergoes a traditional fermentation, with each variety fermented separately in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures under 18ºC to preserve the delicate primary aromas of each varietal. Once fermentation finishes, we make a selective aging on the lees. Finally the wines are blended to achieve the perfect balance of the different varieties before they are cold-stabilized and bottled.

Spain has become quite adept at such fascinating, gentle white wines with tangy citrus notes as the dominant element. There is absolutely nothing of Chardonnay’s barrel-derived richness in this wine, but that is its allure: lightness, crispness, and cleanliness. The gentle fruit flavors are of melon, lemon, and red apple.
