Viña Cono Sur Pinot Noir Rapel Valley 2008
Of a lively and fresh purple red colour, this is a voluptuous Pinot Noir with rich fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and strawberry- a red fruit party! – enhanced by subtle smoked hints. In mouth sweet fruit notes stand out, and its fine tannins give it a great texture and a mouth filling structure. Balance and new world styled, this is a wine of personality and elegance. Sexy, pure and simple, it’s a young and refreshing Pinot.
On first opening the nose is toasty with notes of bacon and gamey dark stone fruit with a palate that is tart raspberry and blueberry with a hint of burnt citrus tartness on the finish. On day two the palate is much more like what you would expect in a Pinot with lots of bright red berry and strawberry.
This was good, for a pinot in this price range. Nice red fruits and a touch of oak. Rich. A good buy.
On the nose rich plum fruit and a touch smoky/vegetal. Thin in the mouth but plenty of flavour makes it interesting. Berry fruit, a bit of cherry. Again there is that vegetal quality and some mineral and tannin to lift it above simple fruity new world pinot. Easy drinking but more to it than expected.
Not my cup of Pinot...sour cherry and thin. Not much structure - and is more along the lines of fruit juice than vino...good value, and as others have said, does have an appeal to some.
2008 13.5% ABV Pinot Noir 750mL $8.99 Notes of earth and gasoline. Deep red with slight hue of brown. Tart cherries with some earth and finishes dry. Not overly tannic. A little too much alcohol.
Tasted this wine last week as part of the 5th Annual Wines of Chile Blogger tasting. Among our tasting group of eight, it was our favorite Pinot Noir in the tasting. Bright fruit, beautifully balanced acidity and great complexity. We paired it with a beautiful roasted eggplant, tea-smoked salmon, and also Chef Victor Wang's Beef Negymaki. It performed beautifully as an accompaniment to all of these dishes.

Pinot Noir is trickling in from the Southern Hemisphere; particularly noteworthy is this line of value-oriented Pinots from Chile. With voluptuous texture and bright red fruits all in the right place, Cono Sur's balanced, California-style Pinot puts the emphasis on freshness and ripe fruit.
Aromas of cherry and raspberry bring a slight earthy stemminess, while the palate is light and zesty, with semisharp plum and pie cherry fruit flavors and a dash of red sucking candy. Medium-long at best on the finish, with citrus, tang and pepper notes.
Bright red in color. Intensely aromatic. Fresh, juicy and crisp in the mouth, with notes of cherry, raspberry and strawberry intertwined with softer traces of plum and a subtle smokiness. Drink with mushrooms and herbs, sushi, white meats, soups, stews, flavorful fish dishes and cheeses such as Edam.
