Viña Cono Sur Gewürztraminer Limited Release 2007

Member Review by enotheque:

Lovely, restrained, balanced lychee, soft spice and flowers. Still, there's really much more to it than "Here's an interesting New World Gewürztraminer..." Chile's lesser-known cool region wines are already on the major export markets (Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc), but they are about to invade the US market on a much more significant scale. The Bio-Bio valley is a sort of ideal place for the traditional Alsatian white varieties. I'm quite sorry to admit, they are just as good as (and present a better value than) any NZ-farmed Alsatian whites I've tried. We'll be seeing more Bio-Bio-farmed Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris wines soon. Just like my advice with Chilean Pinot Noirs, try them now before the critics force prices up over the next several months.

Our main goal is to create expressive and innovative wines from one of the world's southernmost wine regions. Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines conveying the spirit of the New World. Our name refers to the company’s geographic position; it represents wines proudly made in South America’s Southern Cone, on whose western edge lies Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Our logo also evokes a freehand drawing of the silhouette of South America. Our quest is to present the world with the finest grape expression and character, from Chile’s varied wine regions. Right from the start Cono Sur applied the newest ideas and technology to winemaking’s traditional methods. Our main goal, therefore, is to create expressive and innovative wines from one of the world’s southernmost wine regions. Read less
