Viña Cono Sur Chardonnay San Antonio Valley Organic 2011
This young, crisp Sauvignon Blanc is a pale yellow with green hints. In the nose are aromas of citrus fruits and green apples offset by a pleasant minerality. This is a fresh wine that works wonderfully as an aperitif to stimulate the appetite. It also goes well with soft and fresh cheeses. A few ideas are crunchy toasts with smoked salmon and ricotta, rice cooked with grilled red peppers, chicken breast with lemon juice, and oyster soup.
Editorial Reviews for Viña Cono Sur Chardonnay San Antonio Valley Organic
The nose starts out tight with hints of lime and white floral notes, but a little air reveals light peach and bright apple aromas. Light and almost elegant in the mouth, this is really a featherweight wine, almost fully dry with apple fruit flavors topped with a light, glossy hint of lime glaze. The finish is quite modest if fresh. Ultimately there is not that much to this wine, but what is here is fresh and delightfully easy to drink. 84pts
I disagree with some of the editor's remarks. I have stocked this in my home for more than a year, and find it to be refreshingly full-bodied, varietally faithful, and very juicily flavorful, in a dry, Alsatian style, but, yes, simpler with less restraint and earthy terroir. I am very fond of it, especially for the price!
