Vina Cobos Bramare Malbec Lujan de Cuyo 2014

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Crushed black cherries, expensive chocolate, grilled meats, a hint of black pepper and sweet vanilla and powdered ginger greet the nose. A bit tight, and definitely wound up, this shows lovely depth to the fruit with an elegance and almost laciness that is rare to find with malbec. The oak, nutty and showing allspice tones, is dominant today but not offensively so and the fruit ebbs and flows over the oak, giving glimpses of fine balsamic tinged crushed wild berry fruits topped with shaved chocolate. A little blond tobacco and white pepper spice emerges on the finish to add some detail, along with a touch of heat as well. refined and complex, this is a fine wine but it lacks a touch of varietal character. 91pts

One of Paul Hobbs' Argentinean projects, Bramare Malbec sources fruit from the Lujon De Cuyo. The 2010 vintage is quite soft and pleasant with red and blue fruit character balanced by plush structure.

The 2009 Bramare Malbec Lujan de Cuyo offers up slightly greater richness, depth, and layering. It will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring and provide prime drinking from 2013 to 2021.
