Editorial Reviews for Viña Casablanca Sauvignon Blanc Nimbus Estate
Lots of mulberry and melted licorice greets the nose along with complicating notes of truffle, black currant, minty herbs and a hint of cracked pepper all layered over a dark, oily oak base. Smooth and fairly focused on entry if a little soft, there’s a fair amount of fine tannin here all wrapped up slightly funky, truffly black fruit. The oak is obvious but not prominent, though it does raise up on the finish, flowing just under the drk cherry almost curranty fruit. A bit too soft, this is not fat in the mouth but neither is it particularly lively. Might improve with a year or two of age as it is nicely perfumed and shows good focus. 87pts

This wine is sick! Overwhelming ruby red grapefruit with no sour finish. I feel like I got a full day's supply of Vitamin C and y cold is cured. Great pairing with sharp cheeses or non-meat sausages. The nose is smokey with cinnamon and pipe tobacco. This is an incredible value that makes me feel optimistic about Chilean pinot.
A very nice bottle of wine; especially at the price point. Slightly floral nose, with a lots of nice jammy fruit on the palate with a soft oak finish. The winery says it will store 5-8 years, I would personally suggest that 5 is more like it. I personally bought this more as a drinker than a wine to store. Requires limited decanting, but an aerator is always a good plan.
External Reviews for Viña Casablanca Sauvignon Blanc Nimbus Estate
Casablanca Valley Sauvignon Blanc has earned a reputation for quality in recent years. The cool climate, heavily influenced by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, provides excellent conditions for this variety. This Sauvignon Blanc comes from the vineyards of the Nimbus estate in the section of Casablanca Valley that is closest to the sea. The vineyards are densely planted with 1,375 vines per acre on sandy loam soils. The naturally low vigor and climatic conditions are essential factors for obtaining a Sauvignon Blanc with a high concentration of fine aromas and exceptional natural acidity. The grapes are hand-picked in the coolest hours of the day to protect the grapes, which undergo a rigorous double selection upon reaching the winery. Globe trotting enologist extraordinaire Nick Goldschmidt consults here and the wines live up to his reputation. Wine Enthusiast Magazine described this succulent white as "Green and spunky on the nose, with light citrus aromas and nothing forced, sour or funky. The palate is full and a little creamy, with just enough acidic kick. Tastes of green melon, lime and banana. Lasting acidity provides pulse to the finish."
(includes 5% riesling) Deep ruby. Primary aromas of dark berries, cherry skin and cracked pepper. Juicy, gently sweet blackberry and plum flavors coat the palate and are braced by tangy minerals. The peppery note repeats on the finish, which is nervy and nicely persistent. Give this youthful wine a couple of years in the cellar. ** Only 8 in Stock **
Rich, with sweet toast guiding dark plum and licorice notes through the finish. A bit obvious in style, but will have fans. Drink now. 400 cases made. -JM ** Only 1 in Stock **
