Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Viña Errazuriz. In January 2004 Viña Errazuriz became the sole owners of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate. The name Caliterra is taken from 'Calidad' spanish for quality and 'Tierra' - land. The wine making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce environmentaly friendly quality wines in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The focus is around the 1000ha Caliterra estate in Colchagua where 242ha are currently under vine. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines. Caliterra as a truly International brand, the focus has been on developing export markets as the basis for supporting growth. Today, Caliterra is sold in 50 countries on five continents. The Caliterra Tributo ‘Edición Limitada’ Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon/Viognier has an aroma which is unique to the Colchagua vineyards: a blend of fruit with meat and spices against a backdrop of tobacco, black pepper, and a cassis note that ties it all together, along with surprising notes of apricot and white peach from the Viognier. It is satisfying on the palate, flavourful and lush, effortlessly stirring the senses and lingering long on the finish. Its balance is apparent, a complex but harmonious whole with a special factor that definitely comes from the white variety in its DNA. This is a red which is suited to all seasons, and best enjoyed with rich, gamey dishes or desserts.
