Viña Caliterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Viña Errazuriz. In January 2004 Viña Errazuriz became the sole owners of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate. The name Caliterra is taken from 'Calidad' spanish for quality and 'Tierra' - land. The wine making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce environmentaly friendly quality wines in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. The focus is around the 1000ha Caliterra estate in Colchagua where 242ha are currently under vine. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines. Caliterra as a truly International brand, the focus has been on developing export markets as the basis for supporting growth. Today, Caliterra is sold in 50 countries on five continents. At the beginning the 'Tributo Carménère' has an intense colour, almost black, combined with a perfect presentation. On the nose, the wine is a witness of ripe vines delivering years of consistency. Preserved aromas, toffee and fruits, such as blueberries, mix with cream notes and almonds. Other aromatic layers show the classical tobacco and smoke notes at the end of the tasting. Once on the palate, outstanding, soft and filling silky notes, with slight nerves makes a very tasty wine. Long and very nice finish that can last over 100 seconds.

I'd have expected a lot better from a Carmenere... Did not like the nose at all...
