Vina Bosconia Cosecha Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia 1981

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The richly-colored 1981 Vina Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva captures the essence of this house’s wines. It is a wine of great complexity as well as contrasts. At once mature yet seemingly ageless, full-bodied yet somehow also miraculously delicate, it displays evolved sensations of earthiness, smoke, roasted nuts and dried apricots in a more oxidative style with great persistence on the palate and enough acidity to make me think it will drink well for at least another ten or so years. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016. (Oct 2006)

Malvasia grapes. Definitely an oldie, but still has a hint of freshness to it! Juicy, nice acidity, not sweet. Light cookie. Medium body. Light pineapple. Darkish straw yellow. Honey, spices. Christmasy. Blindfold me and I might think this was a light red. Spicy. Very interesting and cool! Kicking myself for not buying it for $30. :-/

The 1981 Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva has a vibrant nose reminiscent of coeval Burgundy, with scents of citrus peel, orange rind, singed leather and a Tuscan delicatessen. The palate has a penetrating orange peel and tart cherry entry with potent earth... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Tempranillo wine from Rioja in Spain. 1981 Lopez De Heredia Rioja Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva 750ml
