Viña Albali Valdepeñas Gran Reserva Valdepeñas 2002

Member Review by atonalprime:

pomegranate, strawberry, cherry and violet on the nose, juicy cherry, lemon, lilac, pear and plum on the palette, wonderful lingering and juicy notes of cranberry, apple and raspberry on the finish. At $9.99/bottle, I'm glad I bought a few -- this vintage seems to be inconsistent: 1 bottle was fantastic, one was good, one was horrible, and the other is still unopened. Stood up very well with a spicy beef stew over rice.

Have had one bottle, waiting to open the other. Definitely not as bold of flavor compared to the 1997. This wine was a little on the flat side and dissappointing when I opened the bottle, but the body opened a lot with decanting over 2 days. Will write more when I drink it again.

Ahora sí... Que maten al idiota que califica tan bajo a este vino!!! Los de Valdepeñas ahora están muy bien. Son vinos robustos. Este va muy bien con casi todo... inclusive, por ejemplo, con un conejo asado con ajos.

Four glasses

Tasting Notes:

This wine is deep ruby-red in color with a full bouquet predominantly of currants and raspberries. Touches of caramel-vanilla and oak on the nose are harmonious with earthy, floral, spicy hints. Dry and warm on the palate with intense raspberry acids, soft tannins, and savory herb flavors, this moderate-bodied wine can be enjoyed with rich flavors found in wild red meats.
