Viña Albali Valdepeñas Gran Reserva de Familia 1997

Member Review by Ruski:

Bought for EUR 9.25 in Sep, 2004 in Finland at Alko. Had this vintage 1997 on 6 May, 2012, so it has been in my cellar for 7 and 1/2 years. Nice experience, this low priced Valdepenas Gran Reserva has become very smooth, gentle, and almost light. Color is also light and brownish on the edges. Clearly beyond its peak, this wine is a very nice example of how enjoyable old Spanish Gran Reservas can become when stored for a longer time. Wish I had more of these, but I do not.

Viña Albali is a wine produced by the family owned wine company Felix Solis in the Valdepeñas region of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Winemaker Felix Solis was with friends one night when he happened upon the idea of creating a wine that would capture the passionate and life-affirming spirit of the Spanish people. The name Albali comes from a star in the Aquarius constellation. The wines are produced with modern methods, yet sticking to local traditions. The result is an affordable, high quality red wine available in Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva releases. The wines are primarily Cencibel (Tempranillo) with precise barrel ageing to impart flavor without overpowering.  Read less
