Vin Santo Ris/Villa Capezzana 2006
The Capezzana estate, 24 km north west of Florence, is owned by the Conti Contini Bonacossi family, and all their children work in the business. The younger generation is now firmly in charge of the estate, with daughter Benedetta Contini Bonacossi as winemaker. The highly talented Stefano Chioccioli, a protégé of the well-known peripatetic winemaker Vittorio Fiore, is the estate’s wine consultant. Grapes are grown on 104 hectares of vineyard in the Carmignano DOC. The vineyards are situated at approximately 150-200m above sea level, facing south/ south-east and south-west. Soils are schistous-clay. This Sangiovese blend is deep ruby red in colour, with blackberry and spiced plum perfumes on the nose, together with a touch of cassis. Full-bodied on the palate, with a good back-bone of ripe, supple tannins and attractive oak. Rounded, elegant flavours of autumn fruit on the long finish.
Tenuta di Capezzana in Tuscany’s Carmignano was renowned for its vineyards in 804 A.D. Today the Count Bonacossi family melds past & present, making wines traditional to the region with modern techniques – using vines grafted from Château Lafite, and blending Cabernet & Sangiovese to create what became known as a Super Tuscan.
