User Reviews for Villemaurine St Emilion 92-93js

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2010 Villemaurine announces the resurrection of this estate (which I rarely review as the wine has been so mediocre). A different animal altogether now that Stephane Derenoncourt has taken over the estate’s management, the 2010's yields were dramatically cut (29 hectoliters per hectare) and the harvest strategy is to pick only ripe fruit. The result is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that hit 15% natural alcohol. A dense purple color is followed by black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with licorice, pain grille (toast), espresso roast and loamy soil undertones. This medium-bodied, rich, moderately tannic effort is the finest Villemaurine I have ever tasted...88-90" WA 05/11 "A ripe, lush style, with ample dark toast and spice leading the way for plum, black currant and anise. The toasty edge hangs on through the gutsy finish...89-92 (BT)" WS Web Only 2011 "This is firm and very silky with chocolate, mineral and blackberries on the nose and palate. Very racy and beautiful. Powerful and in reserve. An improving estate...92-93" JS 04/11
