Villalta Valpolicella Ripasso 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Villalta Valpoliclla Ripasso is made using the unique Ripasso technique, where the wine is passed over the semi-dried grapes used to produce Amarone, therby inducing a secondary fermentation. Made from indigenous Italian grape varieties, the resulting wine is ripe and concentrated, wonderfully smooth and elegant with aromas of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. An excellent partner to roast red meats, game, stews and full flavored mature cheeses.

Sour aroma with a touch of oak. Flavor is nice malty sweetness, followed by alcoholic warmth, wood, and an enjoyable sour finish. The ripasso technique gives it a kick, altho the alcohol is only 13%. A solid wine with a reliable character. (Not sure what year my bottle was from.)
