Villa Mt. Eden Zinfandel California Antique Vines 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes The term "antique" is characterized by excellence, appeal and importance. For us the name "Antique Vines" reflects our elevated esteem and reverence for old vineyards. The name demonstrates the endurance and quality of fruit the vines produce. This Zinfandel opens with aromas of mature fruit and sandalwood which lead to ripe berry flavors sweetened with creamy vanilla nuances. This wine is big, rich, dense, and nicely balanced. Vineyards Antique Vines Zinfandel is a blend of two "Antique Vine" vineyards–one on Atlas Peak in Napa Valley, the other in Amador County located in the Sierra Foothills. All of the vineyard blocks were planted between 1908 and 1968. Due to the age and growing conditions of the vineyards, the antique vines produce low yields of fruit with intense flavors and complexity. Winemaking 100% of the berries were crushed to optimize the extraction of color and ripe fruit characteristics. During primary fermentation, the must received an aggressive daily pumpover regime to enhance color and fruit extraction. Aged for 20 months in equal one-year-old and two-year-old French and American oak barrels. The blended barrel lots were bottled with minimal filtration to preserve the integrity of the wine. Technical Data Alcohol.............14.6% Blend...............100% Zinfandel ph................3.71 Total Acidity......0.65g/100ml

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
