User Reviews for Villa Maria Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Riesling

Winemaker's Notes:

Since George Fistonich founded Villa Maria in 1961, it has grown in reputation to become New Zealand's most successful privately owned winery and maker of New Zealand's most awarded wines. Many respected wine writers and critics support this statement; The new Sotheby's Wine Encylopedia stated of Villa Maria "Probably the best all round producer in New Zealand. Villa Maria has a vast array of wines, yet they are all beautifully crafted to enhance fruit and finesse.... if the quality is super, the consistency is supernatural". This success has been achieved through the Villa Maria team's total commitment to the quality of its varietal wines which is continuously rewarded in national and international wine competitions. The Villa Maria Taylors Pass Riesling has an intense, pure and alluring aroma. Fresh lemon, orange blossom and sweet seductive perfumes characterise the bouquet. The palate has fresh, youthful citrus flavours and subtle spicy tones. The fermentation was stopped before dryness to achieve a natural balance. The classical structure is delicate, refined and harmonious, starting luscious and finishing with a crisp, pure and racy acidity. This Riesling would be ideal with BBQ or spicy chicken wings, or fresh smoked haddock fishcakes on a bed of spinach. For dessert match this wine with polenta cake drizzled with cream and a light berry compote for the perfect end to a summer's evening.
