Villa Maria Single Vineyard Keltern Chardonnay 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The nose is youthful and reserved, tightly bound with hints of lemon, yellow grapefruit and gun smoke intermingling with nuts and crushed rock. The palate is sleek and refined, the intensity of flavour immense yet understated and pure. Texturally showcased by chalky acidity and subtle grainy oak influences, this wine will age superbly to unfold a complex mineral and toast like characters.

Vanilla, pineapple, a blade of grass and buttered toast greet the nose with good intensity and freshness. This is nicely firm in the mouth, very well balanced with a brightness and a roundness that is immediately appealing. In fact, this has excellent balance. The fruit is beautifully expressed, offering shades of ripe citrus, creamy pineapple and a touch of exotic kiwi flavor. Finishing with good drive and freshness in a more peach-driven vein of fruit that covers the present base of wood spice well. At peak and well rounded drinking today. 91pts
