Food Pairings for Villa Maria Chardonnay
Since George Fistonich founded Villa Maria in 1961, it has grown in reputation to become New Zealand's most successful privately owned winery and maker of New Zealand's most awarded wines. Many respected wine writers and critics support this statement; The new Sotheby's Wine Encylopedia stated of Villa Maria "Probably the best all round producer in New Zealand. Villa Maria has a vast array of wines, yet they are all beautifully crafted to enhance fruit and finesse.... if the quality is super, the consistency is supernatural". This success has been achieved through the Villa Maria team's total commitment to the quality of its varietal wines which is continuously rewarded in national and international wine competitions. The Villa Maria Cellar Selection Chardonnay displays a tight, youthful bouquet of citrus lemon and stone fruit, with hints of lime, cashew and complex oatmeal notes. The palate has richness and texture in balance with a gentle acid. The wine shows its Marlborough origin with lovely refinement, balance and length. This Chardonnay, so suited to the summer season, pairs beautifully with white fish in herbed butter, garlic mussels and various chicken dishes.
