Villa Maria Cellar Selection Syrah 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Since George Fistonich founded Villa Maria in 1961, it has grown in reputation to become New Zealand's most successful privately owned winery and maker of New Zealand's most awarded wines. Many respected wine writers and critics support this statement; The new Sotheby's Wine Encylopedia stated of Villa Maria "Probably the best all round producer in New Zealand. Villa Maria has a vast array of wines, yet they are all beautifully crafted to enhance fruit and finesse.... if the quality is super, the consistency is supernatural". This success has been achieved through the Villa Maria team's total commitment to the quality of its varietal wines which is continuously rewarded in national and international wine competitions. The Villa Maria Private Bin Syrah shows brilliant crimson with ruby hues in colour. With wonderful aromatics of bright red fruits, pretty floral and spicy white pepper notes with a fleshy, soft and silky palate, this proves a fastastic wine for easy drinking or to share over dinner. Delicious with roast lamb with asparagus and parmesan filling, or try with mildly spiced sausages.Displaying elegance and good natural acidity this Syrah creates many food pairing opportunities, making this wine ideal for enjoyment now or cellar for the next 2-3 years.
